Avaya IP Office Release 7.0

Delivering on Avaya's roadmap commitment to support Nortel Enterprise Solutions (NES) customers and partners, IP Office Release 7.0 will be Generally Available on 23 March 2011. This release delivers up to 60% investment protection for existing Business Communications Manager (BCM) and Norstar customers - no other vendor can say or do that! Simplified management streamlines installation for more basic users, and a new range of sleek phones and audio conference units bring professionalism to any size business, with paperless labels and touch screens for the 9621G and 9641G IP phones

It's confirmed, Avaya IP Office Release 7.0 will support the following sets: Nortel M7000, M7100, M7208, M7310, M7324, and Nortel T7100, T7208, T7316e, T7406e, and 7420.

It will also support the following IP sets: 1220, 1230, 1120E, 1140E. These phones now support call park, pick-up, DND, Access voice mail, Page, support for busy line appearance, Message Waiting, and Call Log

Avaya has introduced some new hardware to support these sets. This includes a new embed 8 Port TCM Module, and external modules called the DS16A and DS30A. These modules will work on the IP Office 500V2 only. At the moment the these modules only work with the Nortel phones, but will also support the Avaya 5400 and 1400 series sets in a later release.

To make it easier to migrate from the BCM to the IP Office Avaya has also introduced a new data migration tool. This will allow for an easy port of Phone extensions, users (names), greeting messages, voice mail messages, Spoken names, Dial plan, and locale. This will work with the BCM50 Releases 3,5, and 6, and Nortel BCM 450 releases 1,5,and 6.

This release will mark the beginning of a new path for Avaya and will hopefully see many of the dealers that are still quoting BCM switch products and adopt the IP Office as their go forward strategy.

Avaya IP Office Release 6

The Avaya announcement on the fate of the Nortel SMB product line suggests a migration of the Nortel SMB portfolio to the Avaya IP Office portfolio.  Release 6 of the Avaya IP Office is the commencement of the joined Road-map. Some of the significant enhancements of Release 6 include:

  • Support for the 9600 series of IP sets. This phone was formerly only available on the Avaya Communication Manager product. They are now supported on IP Office.
  • Video conference capability on the Soft Phone client
  • Support for the new 1400 series digital sets. The 1400 series have the same look and feel as the 1600 series IP sets. Unfortunately the phone still has the paper inserts
  • New line card for IP Office which includes: a combo 6 Digital phones, 2 analog phones, 4 analog trunks, 10 VCM channels, and power fail
  • New Partner ETR card which includes: 6 partner phones, 4 analog trunks, power fail on IP Office V2
  • Some significant enhancements to the resiliency functionality on the product especially as it relates to the voice mail resiliency
  • Small Community Network now supports up to 1000 users
  • Avaya 9600 Series phones below ****

Avaya BCM End of Sale Notice

End of New System Sales - Avaya Business Communications Manager 50 and Business Communications Manager 450

As part of the previously announced convergence strategy and launch of IP Office Release 7.0, Avaya is announcing the End-of-Sale (EoS) for new systems of Avaya Business Communications Manager 50 (BCM 50) and Avaya Business Communications Manager 450 (BCM 450) products, effective 1st March 2012.

Products required to upgrade, expand and maintain existing BCM systems will continue to be offered for another three (3) years to 1st March 2015. This includes software authorization codes, terminals, media bay modules, expansion units, replacement parts, and upgrades to the latest release (BCM R6.0).

Avaya will make every effort to have supply of these products available for all orders, but cannot guarantee product availability through their End of Sale dates. Avaya reserves the right to manage and/or limit order quantities, or to cancel orders if supply is no longer available. Customer orders will be fulfilled on a first-in, first-out basis. If supply is exhausted prior to the targeted End of Sale dates in this notice, Avaya will issue an updated notice and accelerate removal of the applicable product codes from price lists and associated order entry systems.
